Bogong Moth Fieldwork opportunity…

Bogong Moth Fieldwork opportunity…

From Kate Umbers at Western Sydney University:
This is a call for anyone interested in participating in standardised bogong light-trapping this season – a small, flexible commitment and great excuse to go bush!

There’s a team of light trappers heading out in the Vic Alps again this year, and there’s enthusiasm to expand that effort into ACT & NSW.

Any one in ACT & NSW interested in doing some light trapping?

The idea would be to head out as often as you can between now and the end of the bogong season (which was end April last year?!) and trap moths for the two hours immediately after sunset, then count the moths and let them go. I’m told the traps lights can be on a timer such that you can drop them off and pick up the next morning if that suits you better. Even just a few trips over the season would provide valuable data and as Pete Caley always tells me, we love a true 0.

If you already are doing some trapping in NSW and ACT I’d love to know where about so this doesn’t interfere with your work. If you’re trapping and you’re keen to contribute data I’d love to hear from you. The data will ultimately be available somewhere public, like ALA unless the data collector wishes otherwise which is, of course, no problem.
