Also on the topic of Aussie snow, the book Snow: A Natural History; an Uncertain Future published by the Australian Alps National Parks 25 years ago is still the leading examination of snow in Australia. It includes meteorological aspects of snow, the physical properties of snow, effects of snow on the landscape and the historical snow record in Australia. It also covers life in the snow: algae, vegetation and plant activity beneath the snow, the fauna and examining snow as a selecting force on the alpine fauna. It then went on to examine climate change impacts on the spatial extent of snow-cover and the Australian ski industry. And now, you can now get this book free online at:

Snow: a natural history, an uncertain future – edited by K Green, Australian Alps Liaison Committee, 1998 | A collection of papers examining the possible consequences of global warming on the natural environments of the Australian Alps. Out of print.
